I named my site retroflexive because I wanted a name that evoked language and my interest in it. The linguists out there will already know this, but in case you're not one, a retroflex is a phoneme (or distinct unit of sound) articulated with the tip of the tongue curled upward, like /r/.

I also like the word because I am interested in literature, art, architecture and design from the late nineteenth through the mid twentieth centuries, especially art nouveau, art deco, and mid-century modern, and retroflexive evokes those styles.
